Neurostar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment that is FDA approved for treatment in people over the age of 18 with Severe Major Depression who have not received adequate response from antidepressant medications and psychotherapy, or who have not been able to tolerate medications secondary to side effects.

A typically course consists of 36 treatment sessions over a 9 week period. Treatments occur 5 days a week for the first 6 weeks then following 6 treatments occur over the next 3 weeks.

The most common side effect associated with TMS is discomfort at the treatment site. Some people complain of mild headaches for the first few sessions. Most people report no side effects after the first week of treatment.

There a very few exclusions to receiving TMS. Patients with non-removable conductive metal in or near the head may not be appropriate candidates for TMS treatment. Neither are those who have a pacemaker. People actively using drugs and alcohol may not be appropriate for treatment. A history of seizures does not prohibit TMS, but treatment should proceed with caution.

Neurostar TMS is covered by Medicare and most major insurance companies; however, prior authorization is required. TMS is also available as a self-pay option, for patients whose insurance does not cover TMS, or for patients who wish to utilize TMS for treating diagnoses other than Major Depression. The patient is responsible for all deductibles, co-insurance and co-pays as determined by their insurance company. Co-pays and/or co-insurance are due at each treatment. Financing options are available.
